About The Event
Taking place on Gertrude Street, Fitzroy, the newly awarded ‘coolest street’ in Australia according to Time Out Magazine, from the 3rd - 11th March 2023, ‘Senses and Sensors’ is a multi-disciplinary collaboration, encouraging people to interact with the garments on display and each other, as a restorative act post-pandemic.
The project showcases work from RMIT students across Fashion Design, Textiles, Engineering, Photography and Industrial Design departments, including Fay Russell, Manfred Wong, and Elham Royaee, with advisor senior electronic engineering lecturer, Dr. Katrina Neville.
Garments on display are installed with sensors that pick up movement, sounds, clapping of hands to interact with the audience by movement, ignition of optical lights within the garments, moving of the scales and changing form.
